Alem Tefferi is 14 and in grade three. Her
father died when she was a baby so she lives
with her mother and brother. Although her
mother has poor health she does laboring work
to support her family. They all live in one room
of a poor quality rented house. Alem is very
creative and during her free time she likes
writing novels! When she grows up she want to
be novelist and singer. |

Azeb Mengesha is 17 years old and a 9th
grader. Both Azeb's parents have died but she
lives with a family who were friends of her
parents. She is a quiet girl but enjoys learning
and is very good at school. When she grows
up Azeb wants to be a doctor. |

Buzayew Tilahun is 14 and a 7th grade student.
Her father died 10 years ago and her mother
does labor work to support Buzayew, her
brother and sister. Because of their poverty her
mum sent her brother and sister to live with
their grandparents in a rural area. During her
free time Buzayew helps her mum with work
around the home. Mathematics and English are
Buzayew's favorite subjects and when she
grows up she wants to be a doctor. |

Frehiwot Tsegaye is 15 and in grade 7. Both
her parents died from HIV/AIDS. She and her
sister Workye live with a woman who took pity
on them. Frehiwot was raped last year and now
has a beautiful baby named Kidist. Frehiwot
and Workye do embroidery for a clothes maker
to earn a little money. She would like to be a
doctor when she finishes her education. |

Etalemahu Lewyew is 11 years old and a 5th
grader. Both her parents died from AIDS and
she and her older sister Askalech live with a
neighbor that their mother knew. Before coming
to Children's Heaven the sisters spent their
days picking through garbage for food.
Etalemahu is good at school and she wants to
be a doctor when she grows up. |

Frewoine Bekele is 8 years old and in grade
two. She has lost her father and lives with her
mother and two siblings. Frewoine is younger
than the usual age for joining Children's Heaven
but was in great need because her mother has
HIV/AIDS and is sick most of the time so is not
in a position to provide for the family. Frewoine's
favorite subject is Mathematics and she wants
to be a doctor. |

Yerusalem Girma is a 14 years old and is in 8th
grade. Since her father died she's lived with her
mother and two brothers. Her mother receives a
very small income from daily labor work so
Children's Heaven's support is vital for the
family. They live in a single room in a muddy
house. Yerusalem's favorite subject at school is
biology and she wants to be a writer when she
leaves school. |

Helen Getachew is 13 years old and in grade
seven. She and her sister Tsion lost their
mother and their father does not have a stable
job to provide for them. They live in a small
room belonging to a neighbor who knew their
mother. Helen likes learning the Amharic
language and wants to be a doctor when she
grows up. |

Wogene Tefera is 13 years old and in grade
five. Wogene's mother is dead and her father
lives in a rural area. She lives with her aunt who
sells locally brewed alcohol for a living. Wogene
is an above average student and likes all
subjects. When she grows up she wants to be
a pilot! |

Yeabsera Abebe is 13 years old and in grade
five. She is a clever student and likes
science. Yeabsera has an older sister and
brother. Their father abandoned the family
some years ago. Their mother can't support
them for she has been bedridden for the last ten
months after an accident. They have no source
of income so the girls have to find scraps of
food to feed the family. Yeabsera is a very
strong young girl and wants to be a researcher
when she grows up. |

Workye Tsegaye is 13 and in grade five. She
and her sister Frehiwot lived on the streets after
their parents died. A lady took pity on them and
they now live with her. Workye's sister was
raped last year and now has a baby who lives
with them too. She draws and writes poems in
her spare time. Workye likes English and wants
to be a doctor when she grows up. |

Frihewot Negash is 16 and a 9th grader. She
lives with her mother who is mentally ill. Before
joining Children’s Heaven Frehiwot and her
mother depended on their neighbors for food In
return Frehiwot did chores for them before and
after school for her other needs to be met.
Frehiwot was very sad when she first came to
Children's Heaven but is now a changed girl
with a beautiful smile! Frehiwot would like to be
a scientist when she grows up. |

Wosene Endale is 17 and an 11th grade
student. Her mother is HIV+ and is sick most of
the time. When out of school Wosene does
embroidery and braids hair to make a bit of
money. Her mother washes clothes for people
when she is feeling well enough. Wosene is
easy going and gets along with people very
well. She wants to train to be a doctor after
leaving school. |

Yemeserach Berehe is 14 years old and in
grade eight. She has lost her father and lives
with her mother, brother and sister in a single
room. The house is very close to a toilet and
constantly smells because of that. Her mother
does laboring work in order to support her
family. Yemserach likes studying in her spare
time and when she grows up would like to be a
doctor. |

Yayesh Niguse is 16 years old and an 8th
grader. Yayesh has lost her father and was
abandoned by her mother after she remarried.
She lives with her grand mother who is a
beggar. The support from Children's Heaven is
vital for them both to survive. Yayesh is a
pleasant girl and wants to be a teacher when
she grows up. |

Afiza Demesse is 12 years old but
discontinued her education last year because of
the hardship the family is facing after the death
of her father. Afiza's mother is also HIV+ and
gets sick very often. Afiza has two sisters.
Children’s Heaven has relocate them to a new
community and is encouraging the girls to get
back into school. |

Meskerem Abebe is 14 years old and in 7th
grade. She, her younger sister Yeabssera and
brother live with their bedridden mother. Their
father abandoned the family some years ago.
Their mother can't support them and they have
no source of income. Before Children's Heaven
supported them the girls had beg to get food.
The three siblings sleep on the floor on a
ragged mattress. Meskerem is a charming girl
who enjoys biology and wants to be a doctor
when she grows up. |

Sumaya Demesse is 14 years old and is a
sister of Afiza. She too discontinued her
education last year because her father's death
and her mother often being sick. Children’s
Heaven hopes that Sumaya and her sisters are
able to get them back to school soon. |

Redit Fetene is 15 and a 9th grader. She has
lost her father and lives with her brother and
sister in a single room mud house. Her mother
does laboring work to take care of her family.
Redit likes to help her family whenever she can.
Her favorite subject at school is mathematics
and she wants to train as a physician. |

Masresha Dagne is 13 years old girl and a
grade five student. Masresha's mother is dead
and she has no knowledge of her father. She
now lives with her uncle who is a security
guard, and her aunt. The situation is not ideal
as Masresha’s aunt has mental problems and is
sometimes violent. Math is Masresha’s favorite
subject and she wants to be an artist when she
grows up. |

Rehima Seid is 12 years old and in grade six.
She lives in a very small room with her father,
mother and her 4 year-old brother. The family
has been very poor since her father was forced
to close his barber business when he could not
pay the high taxes. They buy and sell
vegetables to try and earn some money.
Rehima joined Children's Heaven earlier this
year and has made many friends there. When
she's older she wants to be a Doctor so she can
help the poor and treat the sick. |

Assefu Mariam is a 5th grader and 9 years old.
Assefu has lost both her parents and lives with
her aunt. Before joining Children’s Heaven she
had to baby sit her niece and do house chores
while her aunt went to work to support the
family. With Children’s Heaven's help her aunt
now lets Assefu attend school during the day.
Although very shy, Assefu's beautiful smile
brings joy to everyone! She wants to be a
doctor when she grows up. |

Kalkidan Dawit is 11 years old and in grade
three. Her father died so she lives with her
mother and younger sister in a small, smelly,
mud-built room next to a toilet. The room has
just enough space for the ragged mattress all
three sleep on. In addition to the regular support
for Kalkidan, Children's Heaven also assisted
her mother with medical bills when she fell ill
recently. Kalkidan wants to be a doctor when
she grows up. |

Selamawit Dagne is 12 years old and in 8th
grade at school. Her father died six years ago
from HIV/AIDS and her mother is HIV+. Her
mother washes clothes for people and bakes
Injera to sell. Selamawit, her mother and
brother live in one small room together. Her
favorite subjects are Mathematics and English.
She wants to train to be a doctor when she
grows up. |

Tebetalech Yalew is a 17 and in grade eight.
She lives with her father and one brother and
one sister. Before being supported by Children's
Heaven Tebetalech was a 'dumpster girl'
scavenging through piles of garbage for food,
things to sell or plastic bags for fuel. When
Tebetalech leaves school she wants to be a
doctor. |
