Abebe Alemu is 15 years old and in 6th grade.
She has lost both her parents to HIV/AIDS. Her
older sister brought her to Addis to give free
labor for people in return for shelter and food.
Thanks to Children’s Heaven her basic needs
are now met so she now goes to school. Abebe
is a shy girl but very smart and attaining very
high grades at school. She wants to be a
doctor when she grows up. |

Askalech Lewyew is 13 years old and in 7th
grade. Both her parents died from AIDS, but
her mother's friend looks after her and her
younger sister Etalemahu. The family is
extremely poor. Before joining Children's
Heaven Askalech had to scavenge through
piles of waste to find food or items to sell and
also gather pieces of plastic to use as cooking
fuel. Askalech loves soccer and would rather
play than do her school work! She wants to be
a doctor when she grows up. |

Adanech Assefa is 14 years old and in grade
four. Having to care for her mother as she died
from AIDS and the stigma of losing both parents
to HIV/AIDS has left her traumatized. Adanech
rarely smiles and cries very easily. Even
though she is having to catch up with her
schooling she is very clever and gets excellent
grades at school. Adanech wants to be a doctor
when she grows up. |

Bethlem Shewangizaw is 11 years old girl and
in fifth grade. She lost her mother five years ago
and now lives in a one room house with her
younger sister Tigist close to her aunt's house.
Their aunt prepares their food and washes their
clothes but the children spend the night by
themselves. Their father lives outside Addis
Ababa but supports their living by doing
laboring work. Bethlehem gets good grades at
school where her favorite subjects are Science
and English. When she grows up she wants to
be a teacher. |

Tsion Getachew is nine years old girl and in
grade two. Tsion's mother died and she now
lives with her sister Helen in a room provided by
a neighbor who knew their mother. Tsion's
father doesn't have stable work so can't provide
for his children. Tsion would like to be a teacher
when she grows up. |

Bethleheme Jafar is 11 years old and a fifth
grader. She lives with her mother in a small
room. Her mother washes clothes and does
laboring work on road construction to earn
money. Betty was raped when she was 7 years
old which left her with behavior problems. When
she first joined Children's Heaven last year she
was very disruptive but is now much happier
and settled. Betty wants to be a pilot when she
grows up! |

Bezunesh Getnet is 16 years old and in grade
seven at school. She lost both her parents to
HIV/AIDS and lives with her two sisters. Her
older sister has a baby. Before being supported
by Children's Heaven Bezunesh had to
scavenge through piles of waste to find food,
scrap to sell and plastic to use as cooking fuel.
Bezunesh likes playing soccer but wants to be
a doctor when she grows up. |

Genet Dagne is 13 years old and is a 7th
grader. Genet lost both her parents and lives
with her aunt who has 5 children of her own.
The family is supported by Genet's uncle who
does laboring work to earn money to feed the
family. They are very poor and sadly Genet is
being discriminated against by her family in a lot
of ways, often going to school without breakfast
or lunch. Genet is a hard working, friendly and
loving girl who gets good grades at her school.
When she grows up she wants to be a doctor. |

Bisrat Matebe is 14 and a 7th grader. After her
mother died her father went to live with another
woman and no longer cared for Bisrat. Since
then she's had a rough time going from one
house to an other trying to find someone to give
her shelter. Bisrat is a very clever and active girl
who always likes to help people. She is a good
student and when she grows up she wants to
be a doctor. |

Hageritu Zenaw is 15 years old and in 7th
grade. Hageritu father brought her up after
separating from her mother but after he died
she went to live with her mother who does
laboring work to support her family. Hageritu is
a clever girl who likes to laugh a lot and is tall
for her age. When she grows up she wants to
be a doctor. |

Frehiwot Altaseb is 16 and in 8th grade. Her
father is dead so she lives with her mother and
siblings. The family is so poor that they had to
scavenge through piles of waste to find food
before Children's Heaven began supporting
Frehiwot. The support she receives has been a
great help to the whole family. Frehiwot likes
playing soccer whenever she has free time and
when she grows up she wants to be a doctor. |

Hanna Degu is 17 years old and in 11th grade.
Since her mother died she's lived with her
father who does laboring work. Sadly, he drinks
heavily and every night Hanna has to sleep at a
neighbors’ house to avoid being beaten. She
does embroidery to get a little money. Hanna is
a clever girls and wants to be an economist
when she grows up. |

Hanna Tilahu is 13 and in grade four. Her
parents are dead so she lives with a neighbor
who is a beggar. Hanna used to scavenge
through waste to find food or items to sell.
Thanks to the support given her by Children's
Heaven Hanna can now go to school and has a
better diet. Hanna likes playing soccer and
when she grows up she wants to be a doctor. |

Kidest Tesfaye is 12 years old and an 8th
grader. Kidest lives with her two sisters and one
brother. He father died and her mother does
laboring work to support her family. Although
quite quiet, Kidest is a very smart girl who
wants to be a doctor when she grows up. |

Haymanot Sisay is 11 years old and a 6th
grader. She lost both her parents to HIV/AIDS
and is HIV+ herself. Haymanot has no extended
family that are willing to take her in. As a result,
she is in a house rented by Children’s Heaven.
Haymanot is creative and likes drawing. She
wants to be a singer when she grows up. |

Lomi Niguse is 17 and in 10th grade. Both
Lomi's parents have died and before joining
Children’s Heaven she was living with a woman
who gave her a bed and food in exchange for
labor. This meant that Lomi could not go to
school. Lomi was also suffering from the effects
of being raped when she was 12. Now Lomi
lives with her extended family and her basic
needs are met by Children's Heaven. She is
doing well at school and wants to be a doctor
when she finishes her education. |

Hewan Zelalem is 12 years old and in grade six.
Her father is dead and her mother does laboring
work to support her family. Hewan's mother is
HIV+ and is often sick. Despite her hard life she
is a very active and friendly girl. Hewan wants to
be a doctor when she grows up. |

Maseresh Basazen is 13 and in grade three.
Her mother died when she was a child and her
father died just one year ago. Her father raised
her by begging on the street. Maseresh came to
Children’s Heaven two years ago with no
education. She was admitted to school and her
basic needs are met by Children's Heaven.
Maseresh lives with extended family and wants
to be a teacher when she grows up. |

Medhanit Teckecha is 13 years old and in
grade seven. Medhanit has lost both her
parents to HIV/AIDS. She lives with her 3
sisters. After the death of their parents her
older sister stopped going to school in order to
do labor work so that her younger sisters could
continue going to school. She is a happy girl
and likes playing with her friends at Children's
Heaven. When she grows up Medhanit would
like to be a doctor. |

Melat Alebachew is 13 years old and in 8th
grade. Her father died from HIV/AIDS and she
lives with her HIV+ mother and two younger
sister. Melat is a responsible girl and takes care
of her siblings and mother who is often sick.
She is good at school and has a good
character. Melat wants train to be a teacher
after leaving school. |
